CANON D-10 CAMERA – A WORKHORSE
We gave the Canon D-10 a solid 9 day workout during Songkran 2013 and put in a minimum of 5 hours a day and it never missed a beat.
My friend and I decided to stick together during Songkran 2013 and pool our resources for the water-fest.
We both had different cameras for the event to film and take photo’s with, and we where both interested to see how the two cameras were going to compare.
CANON D-10 VS FUJI XP-50
My friend had the Canon D-10
I had the Fuji XP 50

WHAT WE DID
We rigged up a brace to the end of the water pistol where the D-10 camera would be mounted and started shooting vids while we rode around wetting people.
The D-10 switched easily between stills and video mode and it took an absolute hammering from others wetting us back and it stood up to everything that was thrown at it.
The video and sound quality is excellent considering the madness of the days we filmed, with water, wind and music hitting us from every direction.
The D-10 out preformed the XP in nearly every way but most noticeably with the battery life of the camera, while the XP had drained the battery after only 15 minutes video recording time, the D-10 was still going strong after a solid hour of continuous recording.
After an hour we would go back to the room to change out the battery with a fresh battery and recharge the spent one, in 10 minutes we were on our way riding around Pattaya filming again until the battery was flat, and need changing out once more.
THESE ARE THE VIDEOS HE MADE WITH THE CAMERA –
MY FRIENDS THAI ADVENTURES
My friend rides a pushbike around Thailand and uses the D-10 camera to record his adventures, this is his review –
…fun waterproof camera…”ruggedized.”
This camera goes wherever I go…mounted to record bicycle journey, motorbike hiking’s…or NINE solid days of water fighting at Songkran!
I built my own camera mount using cast off bicycle mounting bits. I would wrap the very handy corner strap (settable to any or all four corners!) around my wrist and begin firing my water pistol, filming all.
Good video reproduction.
Great surprise factor in catching people’s expressions. Water was flowing towards them with squeals of delight screaming forth. Fun camera, very durable.
I could not zoom the video on the fly. I would have to stop filming, reset the zoom ratio and then begin filming again.
Canon D10 has a very roundish appearance. Looks like a bloated toy fish!
Good convo factor if this is your thing. People were always curious about the color, shape and pictures.
I could film all day…about 8GB card storage. Very good Digital Image stabilization.
My main complaint? While in still mode, the shutter was very S-L-O-W.
The reason for taking the picture long passed by the time the shutter decided to initiate.
Canon software issue.
Good battery life. You can pick them up used via eBay for about $100 USD.
CANON D-10 CAMERA (4.1 / 5)
Good solid camera for Songkran and can handle the abuse with ease, recommend this camera for sure for Songkran filming.
